"Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first woman she meets and then teams up with three complete strangers to kill again."
~Rick Polito (Marin Independent Journal's TV listing for "The Wizard of Oz")
- Congrats to Cory, Mike, Dennis and Carl on a successful WEMT class in Searsport and on Sears Island. The final "mock" was wonderfully described by Tanya Mitchell, a reporter for the Republican Journal. Be sure to take a few minutes to read all about it here: Emergency medical services go wild on Sears Island.
- Congratulations to Shanelle Coolidge, Chip Eames, Joe Carpenter and Nate Delavan, all of whom have been accepted into KVCC's Intermediate Program for this fall. Good luck!
- While not really an issue here, Emergency Room diversion is a concern at several coastal systems. Maine EMS has now issued a statement that says, in a nutshell, diversion for "overcrowding" is not to be accepted by ambulance crews unless it is in the best interest of the patient to go to another hospital. Hospitals must accept patients we bring to their door. If anyone wants the full letter, let me know. The letter went to hospitals, too.
- Maine EMS Memorial Project. Fundraising has started for the memorial in Augusta. If you would like to contribute, tax deductible donations may be sent to KVEMS, 71 Halifax St., Winslow, ME 04901 payable to "Maine EMS Memorial/KVEMSC". Or send your donation to NorthStar Director and I will forward them on. They're looking for $300,000 but you don't have to contribute all of it right now!
- We're slipping in our Avatar Patient Satisfaction scores! The patients that we transport still like us a lot but we are getting negative marks for "Explaining my illness, injury or treatment in a way I could understand." Brought us below 4 stars. Part of the whole treatment must be a partnership with the patient. I'm not sure why this is a somewhat recent development but please try to make sure that 1) we are always professional and 2) that we explain what we are doing and why we are doing it. (Oh, and please remember to give out the comment cards!) Thanks!
